Pia Cayetano leads Bike for Hope in Davao

Former senator and bike enthusiast Pia S. Cayetano will lead hundreds of cyclists in an advocacy bike ride from Davao City to Tagum City, Davao del Norte on January 22.

Called ‘Bike for Hope,’ the bike ride seeks to promote road safety, environmental awareness, and a healthy lifestyle.

Cycling groups from Mindanao and different regions across the country will be joining the former senator, who is currently Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The bike ride will kick off at 7 am from the SM Lanang parking lot in Davao City and follow a 50-kilometer route that will pass through Panabo City and the municipality of Carmen before entering Tagum City in Davao Del Norte.

The bikers are expected to arrive at 9:30 am at the Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex (DDNSTC). Bikers will also have the option to complete a 100-kilometer route by biking back to the starting point in Davao City.

Bike for hope is a part of the culminating activities for the annual multi-sport fundraising event of Cayetano’s Gabriel’s Symphony Foundation, which will be held from January 20 to 22 at the DDNSTC.

The fundraiser will hold sports activities on triathlon, football, and track events fro differently-abled and indigenous children.

Bike for hope was started in 2003 by Cayetano in memory of her late father, Senator Rene Cayetano. It has been held in many cities and provinces such as Baguio, Cebu, La Union, Ilocos, Cagayan de Oro, Laguna, Camarines Sur, Bacolod, and Palawan.
